What is Radio-Frequency (RF)?

Unlike lasers, which are light-based forms of energy, RF energy is electricity that is carefully controlled by specialized devices such as the Agnes RF. This electricity produces heat when it is conducted into the skin.

The heat from RF treatment causes coagulation of fat (if the microneedle is injected to that depth) and tightens collagen fibers in the skin while also boosting collagen. RF energy helps promote a more youthful appearance by reducing sagging skin.

As we age, collagen production slows down and existing collagen breaks down. An RF device, such as the Agnes RF, helps compensate for this by promoting collagen production in the treated areas.

Is RF Safe for All Skin Types?

One of the major benefits of RF energy is that it is safe for all skin tones and textures. With certain types of lasers, for example, treatment is not safe for individuals with darker skin pigmentation.

What Can Agnes RF Do?

The Agnes RF device is a unique and highly effective way to destroy facial fat under the chin (submental fat) and lower eyelids (under eye bags). It can also be used to firm and tighten sagging skin anywhere on the face (non-surgical facelift).

The type of treatment the patient receives depends on the type of microneedle used, the depth inserted, and the amount of RF energy the doctor releases from the device.

Can I Get Botox or Fillers and Agnes RF in One Visit?

No. Because the active ingredient in Botox^® Cosmetic can be killed by exposure to RF energy, we do not perform both treatments in one single visit. The ideal order of treatments is to have Agnes RF treatment first, and then come back for Botox^® Cosmetic another day.

Dermal fillers are also affected by RF energy. We recommend discussing your treatment plan with Dr. Chang so that she can schedule you for the best sequence to get your treatments done. We generally recommend waiting at least one week after your RF treatment before considering filler injections.

Are Agnes RF Results Permanent?

Yes and no. For submental (under chin) fat removal, the treated fat cells are destroyed forever and will not return. Not all fat cells are removed with treatment. Therefore, if a patient gains weight, then the healthy fat cells that remain will swell in size, causing a double chin appearance.

For this reason, we recommend that patients maintain their weight after treatment is performed.

With sagging skin, the aging process alone can cause sagging to reoccur in the future. This is why Dr. Chang prepares an aesthetic plan for each client that accommodates his or her natural aging process, something that is unique to each individual.
