Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) facial rejuvenation is a cutting edge aesthetic procedure. Dr. Chang remains informed and trained in the latest advances in the field of aesthetics, so it was important to her to provide PRP to her clients. This revolutionary anti-aging treatment uses your body’s own natural healing power to regenerate tissue for a very natural-looking, anti-aging effect that is exceptionally long-lasting.
Dr. Chang has administered numerous PRP injections with beautiful results. She is well-versed in how this treatment works in the skin and will guide you to get the maximal results.
PRP can:
- Improve color, tone and texture of skin
- Reduce under-eye dark circles and hollows
- Stimulate collagen production
- Reduce down time of resurfacing treatments thereby accelerating healing
How does Platelet-Rich Plasma work?
Dr. Chang will extract a small amount of your own blood and place it into a special centrifuge so that the platelets can be separated from the other blood cells. The separated plasma will then contain a high concentration of platelets, which have growth factors and proteins that provide a natural way for your skin to reverse the signs of aging.
Unlike dermal fillers, PRP is not a “filler.” Instead, it is a “bioactive stimulator” because the platelets initiate a biologically sound stem cell response that stimulates your body to produce more collagen. As a result, you will gradually look younger over a period of weeks and months.
PRP injections are very safe and have been used in non-cosmetic medical procedures since 1987 to speed healing.
Who is a candidate for Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Platelet-rich plasma is appropriate for any man or woman who has begun to notice visible signs of aging on the face, neck, and chest.
If Dr. Chang believes that a different procedure or dermal filler (such as Radiesse, Juvederm, or Juvederm Voluma) – or a combination of treatments – is more likely to provide you with the result you want, she will discuss this with you during your consultation.
Please tell Dr. Chang if you take blood thinners or anti-inflammatory medications.
What can I expect from PRP Injections?
Dr. Chang will use a numbing cream to keep your discomfort to a minimum during your injections. The effects of PRP begin to gradually show within about a month. Most people receive three treatments in 4-8-week intervals for optimal results. PRP can also be combined with microneedling or laser procedures to maximize collagen stimulation.
What does recovery from PRP require?
PRP requires no down time, but like dermal fillers, you can expect slight swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the injection sites. These effects go away within 3 days at most.
How long do the results of PRP last?
Platelet-rich plasma injections can last 3 months to one year depending on how much is injected.
