Will I Have Duck Lips? Will It Look Natural?
Dr. Chang gets this question all the time because we’ve all seen too many overfilled lips. Absolutely not with Dr. Chang. She takes into consideration many things including whether the lips and the face are in balance. If you already have overfilled lips or you want to fill them beyond what your face can support, she will advise against it and offer you better solutions.
Your lips are unique and meant for your face. Dr. Chang is very mindful of each person’s unique beauty. She will explain how she can improve your lips while maintaining their integrity.
Does It Hurt?
Dr. Chang uses a combination of numbing cream, nerve block and ice to keep your discomfort to a minimum. Also, most fillers come premixed with lidocaine which helps. Then, using a fine needle or canula, she will inject small amounts of dermal filler into your lips and around the mouth area. While there can be some discomfort, most people tolerate it fine.
Will I have Bruising or Swelling?
Lips are a very vascular area. Therefore, there can be some bruising and swelling. However, they can be minimized by avoiding aspirin or ibuprofen for one week before the injection and taking arnica. Icing before and after also helps. Bruising can last 3-5 days.
How Much Filler Do I Need?
Everyone’s situation is unique and different. Dr. Chang will discuss with you during the consultation. For just the lip itself, one syringe may be sufficient.
Which Fillers and How Much Do They Cost?
Most of the lip injections are done with Juvederm Ultra XC. Belotero is used to fill in deep lines around the mouth. The cost ranges from $399 (Juvederm) to $495 (Belotero) per one ml syringe.
Types of Fillers
How Long Does It Take?
Usually, topical numbing cream is applied for 15-30 minutes but some of our clients use ice only. The injection takes about 10-15 minutes per syringe.
How Long Does It Last?
Temporary fillers such as Juvederm and Belotero are broken down and naturally absorbed by the body. They generally last 6-12 months. We recommend repeating the treatment before you notice that they’re completely gone.
