Non-surgical lip augmentation using injections is usually referred to as “lip fillers.” This quick cosmetic procedure offers fast results that can be customized to any lip area where more volume, definition, or asymmetry correction is desired.
How long do each of the most popular lip fillers last? Get all of those answers in this special edition beauty blog by Dr. Aeria Chang in San Diego.
Dr. Chang has performed thousands of lip filler injections since her practice opened in 2008. Beatitude Aesthetic Medicine specializes in cosmetic procedures that offer maximum results with little to no downtime or pain.
Hyaluronic Acid Lip Fillers
What’s so special about hyaluronic acid (HA) is that this sugar-like molecule is naturally occurring in our bodies. This means that allergic reactions are rare. HA’s purpose is to draw moisture in to cells, providing supple hydration.
As we age, lips become drier and thinner due to a slow down of hyaluronic acid and collagen production. HA fillers offer a boost of both volume and hydration. The bonus is that treated areas will also see a surge in collagen production.
There are several lip fillers on the market, but Dr. Chang prefers Juvederm® Ultra XC. This HA-based formula offers a soft and natural look that can be used to beautifully enhance the upper, middle, and center of the lips.
Allergan makes several formulas in the Juvederm family of products, so ask Dr. Chang which one will help you get the results you’re hoping for. Juvederm generally lasts for about 6 months but can last a bit longer or shorter depending on each person’s body.
HA lip fillers are temporary, and as such, injection results will begin to fade as you get closer to the six-month mark. You can schedule injectable appointments with Dr. Chang that will help maintain your results.
Some other brands of HA fillers on the market include Resylane®, Vollure®, and Volbella®. Restylane lasts about 6 months, Volbella lasts for about a year, and Vollure lasts for about 18 months.
What to Do About Vertical Lipstick Lines
Another major concern that Dr. Chang often addresses is the issue of “lipstick lines” around the mouth. These lines appear when the lips are puckered (for example, when drinking through a straw).
With age, these lines can become apparent all the time, even when the lips are relaxed. Dr. Chang is highly skilled in fading these lines using a dermal filler called Belotero®.
This formula works extremely well to reduce lipstick lines because it offers structure to fill them in, while remaining soft and flexible. The result is a more youthful look. Belotero lasts for about 6 months.
