Body Contouring and Liposuction: What’s the Difference?

Every fitness, women’s, and health magazine offers diet and exercise tips for getting the perfect body. But sometimes it seems like no matter what you do, the perfect body eludes you. Whether it’s those stubborn pockets of fat or unattractive areas of bumpy cellulite, you still have problem spots that you feel the need to hide. Maybe it’s time to consider cosmetic procedures to get the body you want.

At Beatitude Aesthetic Medicine in San Diego, we may have just the solution you’re looking for. We offer a number of body contouring procedures that can help address your problem areas. These procedures are very different from traditional (surgical) methods of fat reduction, such as liposuction, and all of our clients really appreciate those differences.

Before you can understand how our body contouring methods differ, let’s start by talking about what liposuction actually is.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure for removing fat from the body. During the procedure, small cuts are made in your skin. A tube is then placed inside these cuts and used to suction out the fat. Liposuction can provide dramatic results, but the invasiveness of the procedure means it also results in trauma in the area of treatment.

It requires serious downtime, and it’s usually pretty expensive. For working people, this means forking over a sizeable chunk of your salary, and a whole bunch of sick days, too. Liposuction also includes the risks involved with surgery, such as complications with general anesthesia and bleeding. The more you know about liposuction, the more you might ask yourself if it’s really worth it.

At Beatitude Aesthetic Medicine in San Diego, we’re proud to offer methods of body sculpting that don’t require surgery or much downtime at all. With us, there’s no one-size-fits-all. You can choose a body contouring procedure that best suits your needs.

What is body contouring?

Body contouring refers to non-invasive procedures and technologies that slim and contour the body by addressing problem areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. Body contouring procedures can be used to:

  • Melt fat
  • Reduce cellulite
  • Tighten and tone skin
  • Diminish the appearance of scars and stretch marks

All without surgery!

Benefits of body contouring

Body contouring is a wonderful alternative to the more invasive methods of fat reduction and cellulite improvement. Body contouring provides beautiful, natural-looking results without the adverse risks involved with surgery. Besides the lower risk of complications, body contouring has other advantages over liposuction, including:

  • Non-invasive
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Minimal downtime required
  • Less expensive

Although the results from body contouring are not immediate, they are beautiful and natural-looking. So you’ll still look like you, only better!

Patient Stories Dr. Chang has an eye for symmetry and aesthetics. I went in for a consultation to have fillers under my eyes. Instead I was educated on my facial anatomy. I agreed to some fillers in my forehead and cheeks instead and could not be more pleased with the outcome.
