Dermal Fillers vs. Botox: What’s the Difference?

Botox and fillers

One of the quickest ways to rejuvenate your look is to come into Beatitude Aesthetic Medicine and Acne Center for an injectable treatment. In less than 30 minutes, Dr. Chang can erase wrinkles, lift sagging skin, and restore a youthful appearance. We offer two types of injectable treatments: botulinum toxins (like Botox) and dermal fillers (like Juvederm). What’s the difference between these two different types of injectable treatments? Keep reading and find out below.

What Is Botox?

Botox is an injectable cosmetic product made using a highly purified type of protein known as botulinum toxin. When injected into precise locations on the face Botox can smooth lines between the brows, soften forehead lines and wrinkles, fade “bunny lines” and other wrinkles around the mouth, and improve the appearance of a square jaw or pebbly chin. Dr. Chang is an expert injector (she’s a Platinum Plus Injector, an honor held only by the top 5% of Allergan accounts) and well known for her natural looking Botox results.

Botox injections take just a few minutes with results that appear in a couple of days. Patients generally receive injections every 3-4 months to maintain their Botox results. Botox requires no downtime and has few side effects.

Botox has been in use for decades and has an exceptional safety record. Dr. Chang says it’s the safest drug she’s used throughout her entire medical career. All of the Botox used at Beatitude is obtained directly from Allergan to guarantee safety and quality.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are another injectable cosmetic treatment option. They are made from a variety of substances and are used to restore volume, fill in wrinkles, treat acne scars, etc. We offer a variety of different fillers at Beatitude, and each has its own benefits. Dr. Chang can help you determine the right filler for your aesthetic goals.

Some of the fillers we offer include:

  • Juvederm- Juvederm consists of a smooth hyaluronic acid gel that easily flows into lines and wrinkles for a smooth, flawless result. It is very versatile and can be used to fill in wrinkles, smooth lines and creases, add volume, plump up the lips, and much more. Results last 6-9 months per treatment with no required downtime.
  • Juvederm VolumaJuvederm Voluma is also hyaluronic acid-based. It’s one of our longest lasting temporary fillers, with some patients reporting that they see results for up to two years. Voluma is injected deep into the skin in order to lift it, especially in the mid-face area.
  • Bellafill- A favorite for treating acne scars, Bellafill is a unique collagen filler that consists of bovine collagen and PMMA spheres. The collagen provides immediate results while the PMMA spheres stimulate your own collagen production for sustained benefits. Bellafill is long lasting (results last up to five years) and is considered a more permanent filler option. Although this isn’t a new product, it is new to Beatitude. Patient safety is a priority of Dr. Chang’s and she wanted to wait to introduce this filler until she was comfortable using it on herself. Bellafill is safe and very effective.

With many dermal fillers, the results of your treatment are immediate, although there may be some redness and swelling at first. This fades quickly, unveiling a natural looking result.

Which treatment is right for you? Both dermal fillers and Botox are an effective way to rejuvenate your look. Dr. Chang can help you choose the right products. Best of all, these two injectable treatments can be used together for stunning results comparable to an instant “facelift”.

Patient Stories Dr. Chang has an eye for symmetry and aesthetics. I went in for a consultation to have fillers under my eyes. Instead I was educated on my facial anatomy. I agreed to some fillers in my forehead and cheeks instead and could not be more pleased with the outcome.
